How to clean Black Walnut wood prior to finishing to get the best look and chatoyance? Find it out here and make the most out of your wood!
In this test 13 solid Black Walnut samples were sanded to 1500-grit and their chatoyance was measured. Then each of these was cleaned by quickly wiping one of 13 different fluids, then their chatoyance was measured again. The results are shown in table below:

It appears that only 4 fluids had a positive impact on chatoyance, out of which two had a significant negative impact on brightness (Mr Muscle drain gel and Acetone). On the other hand, water + dishwashing soap and lemon juice had a positive effect without negatively affecting brightness.
